What are some mistakes that B2B brands make with their social content?
Look, we've all been guilty of just the random posting with no strategy. It's what a lot of businesses do when they're first starting off. But as we graduate and we take this component seriously, it's going to be very important that we mitigate that risk, come in with a plan, come in with intention, and come in with a real content strategy.
Another big mistake that we all get caught in just as human beings is we talk a lot about ourselves. How many brands do you see daily talk about their features and about their benefits, but in no way are connecting directly to you? And it's okay. Everyone does it, but that doesn't make it okay.
So, let's adjust our messaging to make sure that it hits exactly when, where, and how we need it to. We're creating content for a purpose. We want people to get to where we want them to go. Whether it's a landing page, whether it's to provide their information or a variety of other steps.
So, we need a call to action. If you want them to take action, why not ask for it? Because if there's nothing there for them to engage with or to respond to, then you're setting themselves up to bounce and setting yourself up for failure.
I get how hard it is to keep it consistent with your content. But regardless of the frequency of what you're sharing, we have to make sure that if you're going to have any type of consistency, it's in your messaging and having that be as clear as possible. Going into things blind and just trying to figure it out and post randomly, it will work, but it won't give you the social media engine that you're trying to create in the first place.
And lastly, one of the biggest mistakes that I see is not using data to figure out what we can do next. Those who are using data, yes, data in your social media strategy are the ones that are going to be winning on the platform moving forward. So, as you're posting, make sure you're checking your engagement rates and other key performance indicators so that you know not only what to create, but what to continue providing to your audience that clearly wants more.
